Turkey's Gas Deliveries via Ukraine at Risk for Winter

Some risks are likely in gas transportation to Turkey and Europe through Ukraine over the winter, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, Novak explained that Ukraine was unable to store enough gas before the winter period.

"Currently, the weather is below seasonal norms. Therefore, there are some risks regarding the gas that was transported," Novak warned.

In a recent statement, the Russian Minister noted that Ukraine needs to store 2 billion cubic meters of gas in order to prevent supply difficulties in winter.

Europe receives 15 percent and Turkey receives 30 percent of its gas from Russia through Ukraine -- known as the Western Line. A capacity of about 14 billion cubic meters is transferred to Turkey via Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria.
