Turkey: Potential for Japanese Green Energy Trade

Turkey is a potential target forJapan's aimto promote overseas investments in green energy,according to a statement by Japan'sMinistry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on Wednesday.

In a written statement to Anadolu Agency,METI underlined the importance of Japan's aimto invest in secure,economically efficient, environmentally friendly and safe (3E+S)energy structures.

"Japanese businesses are interested in promoting business overseas including high efficient and low emission power plants and renewable energy such as photovoltaics (PV)and geothermal power. Turkey is one of the potential countries for thisinvestment destination," the statement revealed.

Japan is responsible for constructing Turkey's second nuclear power plant --still in itsproject phase --in Sinop onthe northern Black Sea coast,in partnership with Turkey and France.It will have 4,480 megawatts of capacity in its four units.

"The Sinop Nuclear Power Plant is planned for completion in 2023. The construction schedule is also being planned in an ongoing feasibility study," the statement read.

The ministry also underlined that the gravity of global energy infrastructure demand is projected to shift to Asia and other emerging countries.

"We expect technology and experiences of Japanese business to help advance energy infrastructure development in such areas with high efficient and low emission coal-fired power generation, renewable energy, energy conservation, and nuclear power," according to the METI.
