Turkey Awards 740MW Wind Capacity to 22 Projects

Turkey awarded pre-licenses for wind energy projects with a total capacity of 740 megawatts (MW) to 22 projects in 9 regions on the final day of a four-day-marathon tendering period for the projects with a total capacity of 2,130 MW.

Turkey's pre-licensing tenders for wind energy power plants started on Monday in Ankara, in which 346 renewable energy firms participated on Thursday.

The lowest offer on Thursday was given by PNE Wind Renewable Energy with -2.87 dollar/cent per kilowatt hours for Canakkale province located in the northwestern part of the country.

The company was offered 71.4 MW capacity for its Koseler Wind Power Plant project, while the rest of the capacity was distributed between 8 companies.

The tender for Canakkale totaled 260 megawatts, which has the highest capacity among the 9 regions in Thursday's bid.

Previously in late June, pre-license tenders for wind energy that were offered for tender were finalized over a three-day period. Over 200 renewable energy firms participated for a total of 710 MW of wind capacity throughout Turkey.

As of Nov. 30, the number of licensed wind power plants in Turkey reached 161, which provides 7.8 percent of total electricity generation in the country. Turkey's installed capacity of wind energy reached 6.5 gigawatts.
