Surprise Partner from Croatia to Finnish Energy Consortium

Finnish energy consortium,Fennovoima, revealed a surprise shareholder from Croatia on Wednesday.

VoimaosakeyhtioSF, the largest shareholder of the Fennovoima brought a new partner, according to Finnish media.

Migrit Solarna Energija, which is considered as an unknown player in the energy market is set to take around 15 percent stake inVoimaosakeyhtioSF which gives Migrit 9 percent ownership in consortium.

According to Elina Engman, the CEO ofVoimaosakeyhtioSF, Croatian company's financial commitments amount to slightly more than 150 million euros. Engman said that they made a research about the company and they are satisfied.

Rosatom and Atomproekt signed the agreement for a full set of designs for the Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant owned by Fennovoima to bebuilt in Helsinki. The agreement was signed for engineering, procurement of equipment and turnkey construction of the nuclear power plant. The proposed plantis a joint venture betweenFennovoimaand Rosatom to be concluded on 21 December 2013.

Hanhikivi is expected to cost around 7 billion euros.

The Finnish government gave its approval toRussia’s Rosatom and Fennovoima for the construction of a nuclear power plantin Pyhajoki, amunicipality inwestern Finland on Dec.8.

The shares of the Finnish energy consortium,Fennovoima,are divided betweenFinland’s energy company VoimaosakeyhtioSF with a64percentshare, while the remaining36percent areowned by RAOS Voima Oy --a subsidiary of Rosatom.

Fennovoima submitted an application to build Hanhikivi nuclear power plant, whose components will besupplied by Rosatom, according to sources from FinnishMinistry of Employment and the Economy on Tuesday.

Fennovoima will build a 1,200 megawatt reactorsupplied by the Russian state-owned nuclear company. Theapplication was made ahead of the June 30 deadline.

According to the agreed schedule, the electricity production of the power plant will begin in 2024.
