Toplofikacia Sofia, the heating utility serving the Bulgarian capital,
plans to upgrade its production and distribution system, using financing from
the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF), the European
Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Friday. The project envisages procurement tenders for five of its components, with a
total estimated value of 36.4 million euro ($38.8 million), the EBRD said in a
procurement notice, published on its website. Toplofikacia Sofia intends to use proceeds of a grant provided by the
KIDSF, administrated by the EBRD, as well as its own financing. One of the major components of the project envisages the replacement of
about 21 killometres of old pipelines with pre-insulated pipes. As part of the
component, tenders for the supply of district heating pipes, in 2018 and 2019,
as well as two contracts for the installation of the supplied equipment, will
be launched. Toplofikacia Sofia will also launch a tender, worth 9.1 million euro, for
the modernization of the turbine unit TG3 at Sofia East thermal power plant
(TPP). Another major tender, to be launched as part of the project, envisages the
construction of a cogeneration plant for heat only boilers, with a total
estimated value of 9 million euro. The procurement tenders will be launched in 2017, the EBRD said.
