Sofia Heating Utility to Launch 10 Mln Euro Tenders for Upgrade Works - EBRD

Friday, 18 March 2016

Toplofikacia Sofia, the district heating company serving the Bulgarian capital, intends to use the proceeds of a grant provided by the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF), administrated by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and its own financing to upgrade its heating production and distribution system, the EBRD said on Thursday.

The total amount of the planned procurement contracts is 10 million euro ($11.3 million), the EBRD said in a procurement notice.

The project for the upgrade of heating production is part of a bigger project to replace about 63 km of old pipelines by 2018 with preinsulated district heating pipes.

Another project includes installation of new co-generation modules with three gas engines with electric and thermal capacity of about 10 MW.

Modernisation of a turbine unit will also be implemented as the existing condensing type turbine will be replaced with a new backpressure steam turbine with capacity of 30-35 MWel and 89 MWth.

The rest of the projects include reconstruction and modernisation of energy boiler units and construction of flue gas utilisation facility.

Tendering for the above contracts is expected to begin in the first half of 2016.

KIDSF was established in June 2000 to support Bulgaria with closing and decommissioning four out of six units of its sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy due to safety concerns.
