Shell Turkey Sees TL 16 Billion in Profit in 2015

Shell Turkey earned more than 16 billion Turkish liras in 2015 with growth in long-term investments outperforming market expectations, Shell Turkey Chairman Ahmet Erdem said in a recent interview with the Anadolu Agency's energy desk.

"Turkey is one of the top 10 priority growth markets for Shell," Erdem said adding that this is down to the country's growing economy.

Shell, which has a presence in Turkey for 93 years, currently has a 20 percent share of Turkey's fuel oil market with 1,024 gas stations, Erdem informed.

He also said that the company's refinery for mineral oil in Derince in the district of Kocaeli, 100 kilometers from Istanbul exports 93,000 tons of mineral oil to 55 countries.

Shell's facility in Derince is its only grease manufacturing plant and is the biggest mineral oil facility in the Mediterranean with trade worth 100 million liras in 2015.

The total consumption of refined petroleum products including diesel and gasoline, increased by 31.2 percent to 2.4 million tonnes between November 2014 and November 2015, according to the Turkish Energy Regulatory Market (EMRA) latest data.

During the same period, total fuel oil sales rose by 18.8 percent to reach over 2 million tonnes. Total production of refined petroleum products experienced a jump of 37.7 percent to 25.3 million tonnes during the same period.

In the January to November 2015 period, total fuel oil sales in the country increased by 14.2 percent to 20.7 million tonnes.
