Following a prolonged cyber-attack on the evening of Sunday, August 28, the main site of the Institute, www.iene.eu, went down. The malicious attack occurred on the site's server, which is hosted in the “Interworks” Cloud Data Center which collaborates with Microsoft in Thessaloniki. The malicious attack occurred on the site's server, which is hosted in the “Interworks” Cloud Data Center which collaborates with Microsoft in Thessaloniki. Consequently, all connections to the network were severed, and this resulted in the Institute’s website not being accessible or updated for more than 48 hours.
IENE’s management much regrets for this inconvenience, and wishes to apologize to its members who regularly visit www.iene.eu. Eventually, the operation of the site was restored on Wednesday morning, August 31st.
IENE shall spare no effort to try and clarify the causes of this hideous cyber-attack, which certainly raises serious questions about the security of electronic information in Greece and in the broader region.
