Russia's Novatek Ships First LNG Cargo

Russia's second biggest natural gas producer company Novatek supplied its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the Trinidad and Tobago to Chilean port of Quintero, the company announced on late Thursday.

Lev Feodosyev, Deputy Board Chairman and Commercial Director of Novatek said that this first LNG cargo is an important milestone for Novatek to enter the global LNG market.

"After the launch of the first train of the Yamal LNG project we will enter the LNG market with our own volumes, and gaining spot trading experience is important for us," he said.

Novatek is Russia's biggest independent natural gas producer and second-largest gas producing company. The activities of the company include exploration, production, processing and marketing of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons.

Novatek also holds a 50.1 percent share in the Yamal LNG project while Total and China's CNPC each hold 20.01 percent and the Chinese Silk Road Fund has a 9.9 percent share interest.

The final investment decision on the Yamal LNG project was made in December 2013 with a planned launch for first LNG production in 2017.

The projected capacity is 16.5 million tonnes of LNG per year.
