Russia Plans to Invest in Iran’s Gas Industry

Gazprom is interested in making investments in Iran’s gas industry, according to Iran's energy information network Shana's report on Tuesday.

National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Gazprom's taskforces discussed cooperation for the repair and maintenance of Iran's gas transmission and distribution networks as well as investment opportunities in Iran’s natural gas industry.

Iranian and Russian officials negotiated eleven topics during the meeting, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), repair and maintenance system of Gas Turbo Compressors, turbine testing lab, leak detection of gas transformation pipelines and new technologies.

"Iranian and Russian sides have agreed to continue talks on ways of decreasing gas consumption for home usage and also options on monitoring gas stations and other facilities in the next meeting to be held in Russia,” Mojtaba Sheikh Bahaei, a deputy head of NIGC said.

Tehran and Moscow established six taskforces to launch new talks on energy investments, gas business development and technology transfer, during Gazprom executives' visit to Iran in November 2015.
