Romania's Consumption of Hydroelectric Power Increased by 26%

Romania's consumption of hydroelectric power increased by 26 per cent up to 4.2 million toe and represented 0.4 per cent of the total world's consumption last year, according to data centralized by British Petroleum.

Considering the last decade, the highest consumption of hydro energy was recorded in Romania in 2005 and 2010, 4.6 million toe and 4.5 million toe respectively.

The countries with the highest consumption of hydroelectric power last year were China/Hong Kong -- 240.8 million toe, Canada -- 85.7 million toes and Brazil -- 83.6 million toe.

In the European Union, consumption of hydro energy stood at 83.8 million toe, overall, and represented 9.5 per cent of the total world's consumption.
