Qatargas to Supply LNG to Pakistan

Qatargas will supply 1.3 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually to Pakistan, the company announced Saturday.

Qatargas and Pakistan-based Global Energy Infrastructure Limited signed a 20-year LNG sale and purchase agreement in Islamabad at the weekend.

Under the terms of the agreement, Qatargas will supply Pakistan with 1.3 million tonnes of LNG for 20 years, "with provisions allowing the volume to increase to 2.3 million tonnes per annum.”

The first LNG cargo is planned to be delivered in 2018.

"I am particularly pleased to strengthen our relationship with Pakistan, which continues to grow as an important LNG market,” said Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, CEO of Qatargas.

Qatargas is the world's largest LNG producing company, with an annual LNG production capacity of 42 million tonnes a year.
