Putin to Visit Turkey for Turkstream Coastal Completion

Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend a ceremony in Istanbul on Monday, Nov. 19 to commemorate the completion of the sea section works for the TurkSteam natural gas project, the Russian presidential aide said on Monday.

In an interview with Russian Izvetsiya Newspaper, Yury Ushakov, aide to the President, confirmed that both Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Putin plan to attend the ceremony. The TurkStream natural gas pipeline project, which will carry Russian gas to Turkey and Europe, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.

The project is an export gas pipeline set to cross beneath the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey and also further extend to Turkey's borders with neighboring countries.

TurkStream's first line is set to carry 15.75 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to Turkey and the second line will go to Europe. The project will have a total capacity of 31.5 bcm.
