“Promitheus” Awards 2022: IENE Honors Three Personalities from Greece’s Energy Sector

The well attended 26th National Conference “Energy & Development 2022” concluded with the annual IENE awards presentation. During this moving ceremony (see video) IENE awarded this honorary distinction to three personalities from Greece’s energy sector, thus recognizing their important contribution. They include the following:

During this moving ceremony (see video) IENE awarded this honorary distinction to three personalities from Greece’s energy sector, thus recognizing their important contribution. They include the following:

- Dr. Stelios Loumakis, President of the Association of Photovoltaic Energy Producers (SPEF), who in recent years has contributed significantly to the promotion of the photovoltaic applications in Greece.

- Mr. Michalis Filippou, former CEO of the Hellenic Energy Exchange (HEXE), who contributed significantly to the development and establishment of the electricity market by helping found the Hellenic Energy Exchange (ENEX).

- Dr. Vassilios Belessiotis, Emeritus Director of Research at the “Demokritos” National Center for Scientific Research, founder and former Head of the “Solar & other Energy Systems Laboratory” from 1983 to 2019. Through his consistent and scientifically recognized work, Dr. B. Belessiotis contributed significantly to the introduction and adoption of high standards in solar thermal systems manufactured in Greece.

The "Prometheus" prizes were awarded on behalf of the Institute by the Chairman of IENE Mr. Costis Stambolis and the Secretary General Mr. Kostas Theophylaktos. The opening remarks to the ceremony were delivered by the past Chairman of IENE, Mr. John Chatzivassiliades, who referred to the award concept and the introduction of the “Prometheus” prizes, which, as he underlined, have been established with the purpose of rewarding professionals in the energy sector who, with their work and example, have contributed to the promotion specific aspects and applications in the field of energy. “

The two-day National Energy Conference of IENE was convened under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and was held at the Divani Caravel Hotel, in Athens.
