Following a visit to Cyprus earlier this week by IENE’s Executive Director Mr. Costis Stambolis details were finalized with the local organizer, Mr. Iosif Iosif, Managing Director of FMW Financial Media Way for the 4th Cyprus Energy Symposium which is to be held on December 7-8 at the Hilton Park Hotel in Nicosia. The symposium has been established over the last four years a major event in Cyprus for energy policy and business. The conference is backed by Cyprus’s leading energy companies and industry associations and is organised under the auspices of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Symposium will be attended by senior executives, scientists, engineers and energy professionals from a wide variety of energy companies and also by policy makers and senior government officials. Participation is expected too from other countries of the region, especially from Egypt, Israel and Greece and by international oil and gas companies. The President of the Republic of Cyprus MR. Nicos Anastasiades and other senior political figures have accepted the organizers invitation and will be addressing the conference.
This year’s Energy Symposium will cover all latest developments in the upstream natural gas sector in Cyprus but also in neighbouring Israel and Egypt, in the electricity sector including plans for major interconnector projects Renewable Energy Sources projects and energy efficiency applications in the building sector will also feature prominently in the Symposium’s agenda. The role of Cyprus as an emerging energy hub in the East Mediterranean will be hotly debated as interest is growing daily following latest gas discoveries in Egypt and acceleration of plans for the exploitation of Israel’s natural gas fields.
The detailed programme of the 4th Cyprus Energy Symposium was announced last Tuesday (24/11) at a press conference by the organizers held in the premises of the Hellenic Bank which is the Symposium’s major sponsor. Other sponsors include Hellenic Petroleum, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, PWC and Wartsila. Supporters include Cyprus’ Regulatory Energy Authority (RAEK) and Orthodoxou Travel while the official air carrier is Blue Air.
