Turkey's leading petrochemical producer Petkim joined the Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the company announced on Monday.

The membership will allow the exploration of mutual interests for a period of two years starting in August, Petkim said, adding that the company, which is a subsidiary of SOCAR Turkey, has become one of the 250 global companies involved in the ILP program.

Petkim joined the ILP with the objective to help transform its R&D activities and strategic research that would help develop the industry at a global level, the company noted.

The membership is also very significant in terms of projects in digital transformation and innovation, two of the strategic priorities of Petkim, it added. "During the course of the program created by MIT for the purpose of establishing and strengthening liaison mutually with companies around the world in knowledge and technology, Petkim will focus on specific research fields that are of strategic importance," the company noted.

Petkim added that the first phase of the ILP membership will continue for two years with an option to be extended on a mutual basis, depending on the requirements of the projects to be carried out.

As part of the program, the MIT faculty and researchers and Petkim's R&D and production units will explore potential project-related interests beginning in August. In September, specialists from Petkim will visit the U.S. and attend meetings at MIT. The activities focused on exploration of mutual interest will continue throughout the year.
