On November 23 the Athens based Center for International Strategic Analyses (KEDISA) in association with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Greece organized a highly focused Webinar to examine the "Geopolitics, Energy Security, and Safety of Nuclear Power" This 4 hour long highly focused event attracted the attention of more than 150 participants from Greece, other European countries and from the USA.
Keynote speakers included Dr. Rolandas Kačinskas, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Greece, Dr. Andreas Banoutsos, president of KEDISA, Ms. Jane Nakano, Senior Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington DC, Ms Hanna Smith from the European Center of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats, Mr. Albinas Zananavičius, Vice- Minister of Foreign Affairsof Lithuania, Mr.Kamil Klysinski, from the Center of Eastern Studies in Poland and others.
IENE, which actively backed and promoted this event among its members, participated in the Webinar through a presentation by its Chairman and Executive Director, Mr. Costis Stambolis who expanded on the subject of "Decarbonisation in SE Europe and the Role of Nuclear Power". In his presentation Stambolis stressed the importance and vital role of nuclear power in SEE's effort to lower GHG emissions. "Nuclear power can work hand in hand with Renewable Energy in achieving higher RES penetration in the region's electricity grids", Stambolis underlined in his concluding remarks.
