Norway Oil Service Firms, Unions to Agree Wage Deal

The Norwegian Oil and Gas Association (NOG) and the Norwegian Union of Energy Workers signed a new wage deal, the NOG announced on Thursday.

The NOG, which represents employers reached agreement on the well service pay agreement during the evening of July 6 with workers.

"Strike action has thereby been averted," NOG noted.

"The mediation process was demanding, but we reached a conclusion in line with the framework for the lead sector’s settlement," said Jan Hodneland, lead negotiator at Norwegian Oil and Gas.

A general pay rise of 3100 Norwegian Krone (NOK) which is about $367 and an increase of NOK 1 on the supplement for shift and night work have been awarded.

"We believe the two sides can jointly find good solutions for the sector covered by the agreement through such committee work," said Hodneland. "That’ll put efforts to reduce costs on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) on the agenda. We’re pleased to have avoided a conflict."

The Norwegian Union of Industry and Energy Workers (Industry Energy), the Norwegian Union of Energy Workers (Safe) and the Norwegian Organization of Managers and Executives represented the employees seeing a wage hike, while Norwegian Oil and Gas was negotiating on behalf of the employers.

If mediation would fail to yield a solution, around 12 percent of daily oil and gas production on the NCS would be hit.
