Wednesday, 30 May 2018

Japan's Kansai Electric Power will reduce its electricity rate by 5.36 percent on July 1 due to production cost savings, according to the company on Monday.

"Following the resumption of commercial operation of Units 3 and 4 of Ohi Nuclear Power Station, we decided to reduce electricity rates for customers in the Kansai area by 5.36 percent on average from July 1 and filed today a notification of change of provisions for specified retail supply of electricity with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry," the statement read.

On Aug. 1, 2017, the company reduced electricity rates based on fuel costs savings in thermal power generation due to the resumption of operations of Takahama Units 3 and 4.

The company also commented on efforts to implement safety standards at the plant.

"We will continuously strive to operate the nuclear power station safely and stably," it said.

The company will also provide attractive tariff rates for customers and will "further make efforts to upgrade services to enhance competitiveness of our electricity both in price and services".
