The report noted that for the third consecutive year, global LNG trade set a new record, reaching 258 million tonnes.
This marks an increase of 13.1 million tonnes, a 5 percent increase from 2015.
South Korea followed Japan with 33.7 million tonnes in LNG imports and China ranked third with 26.8 million tonnes.
Turkey ranked ninth globally with 5.6 million tonnes of LNG imports.
- Qatar ranked as leading exporter
The country that exported the largest amount of LNG worldwide last year was Qatar with 77.2 million tonnes.
Australia followed with 44.3 million tonnes and Malaysia with 25.9 million tonnes.
Nigeria was the fourth biggest LNG exporting country on the list, while Indonesia was the fifth and Algeria was the sixth.
The report noted that Turkey's first ever Etki Liman floating storage re-gasification unit (FSRU), which began operations in January 2017, was the latest LNG terminal globally to become operational.

Liman FSRU, named the GDF Suez Neptune, has 145 thousand cubic meters of
storage capacity and is expected to contribute to Turkey's output by
producing more than 2.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per
year.
