Israeli Energy Minister to Visit Turkey in April

Israel's Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources, Yuval Steinitz, is expected to pay a visit to Istanbul at the end of April, according to diplomatic sources on Tuesday.

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said that the Israeli minister plans to visit Turkey to attend the Atlantic Council Istanbul Summit that will be held at the end of April.

On Oct. 13 last year, Steinitz visited Istanbul to attend the World Energy Congress 2016, marking the first visit by Israel after several years.

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Berat Albayrak and his Israeli counterpart agreed to enter talks in the coming months to discuss a project, which will allow the transmission of natural gas from Israeli economic waters through Turkey and onto Europe.

On Nov. 15 last year, Israeli officials in Ankara confirmed that Turkey and Israel held their first working-level dialogue the previous week in Istanbul to discuss a proposed natural gas pipeline project between the two countries.

A delegation from Ankara also paid a visit to Tel Aviv and Gaza in February this year to discuss the pipeline construction possibilities and for solutions to rectify the electricity problem in the Gaza Strip.

The Atlantic Council Summit will bring high-level private sector, government, and civil society leaders from around the world together in Istanbul to debate global issues on energy, economics and security with a regional focus while emphasizing transatlantic engagement.
