Ιran Signs Deal to Build 540 MW Power Plant in Syria

Syria signed an agreement with the Iranian Mapna Group to build a 540-megawatt gas-fired power plant on the country's coastal city of Latakia, Reza Ardakanian, Iran's energy minister said late Tuesday.

According to Iranian news agency ILNA, Ardakanian said the combined cost of the plant would be €411 million. The Minister said the Mapna Group, which will be responsible for the construction of the plant as per the new agreement, has already built power plants with a capacity of 900 megawatts in Syria so far.

In addition, the Minister confirmed that another 125-megawatt power plant would soon become operational in Aleppo.
