Iran’s petrochemical production capacity will reach 100 million tons per year by 2025, Behzad Mohammadi, the chief executive officer of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said Wednesday.
Stressing the petrochemical industry is one of Iran's "chief economic priorities," Mohammadi, who is also the deputy petroleum minister for petrochemical affairs, said the 100 million tons per year of capacity would be reached once the industry completes its construction projects.
"So far as the law allows, NPC will exert every effort to solve the problems of petrochemical facilities and support them," Iran's Shana news agency reported Mohammadi as saying. "Last year, $12 billion in revenues was generated by exporting petrochemicals, which is an indication of the valuable state of the industry in Iran,” Mohammadi said.
Located in the southwestern province of Khuzestan in Iran, petrochemical activities in Mahshahr sees the processing of 37 percent of the country's total petrochemical output, according to Shana. Currently, 54 petrochemical plants are operational in Mahshahr, with an additional 34 plants under construction, it said.
The plants in this area produce 53.6 million tons of petrochemicals per year out of which 30.7 million tons are sold, while the rest is traded between other facilities, it added.
