Some 20 speakers and panelists have already confirmed their participation at IENE’s regional conference on "Energy Security and Gas Supply in SE Europe” to be held in Vienna, on Thursday, March 12, 2015. Among them, the speakers cover a broad area of expertise and an extended geographical area.

As this IENE event follows the cancellation of the South Stream gas project and the huge implications arising thereof for European energy security, several high-ranking executives from of energy companies and organizations from the countries of the broader region will take part in this one-day conference in Vienna, focusing on the energy security issues related to European gas supply. The CEO of the Vienna-based Central Europe Gas Hub, Mr. Gottfried Steiner, Mr. Janez Kopac, the Director of the Energy Community, which is also based in the capital of Austria, Mr. Milan Zdravkovic, Deputy CEO for Economics of Srbijagas (Belgrade, Serbia), Dr. Radu Dudau, Director of Romania’s EPG, Mr. Vladimir Durovic, Manager of Development Division Department of Croatia’s Plinacro, (Zagreb,) Mr. Spyros Paleoyannis, CEO of Greece’s DEPA, Mr. Gohkan Yardim, General Manager of Turkey’s Ankgoragaz Import Export Co., Ms. Eugenia Gusilov, Managing Director of ROEC (Bucharest, Romania) are some of the confirmed speakers representing a wide spectrum of business and academia, who will attend the conference. Moreover, Dr. Narsi Ghorban, Secretary of Iran’s Environment and Energy Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC-Iran), will also attend the event, verifying its relevance and connection to the latest energy developments in the larger vicinity. The Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA) is also participating through one of its senior experts.

Dr. Yurdakul Yigitguden, Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (Vienna, Austria), Ms. Beate Raabe, Secretary General of Eurogas (Brussels, Belgium), Ms. Katja Yafimava, Senior Research Fellow of the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies (Oxford, UK) and Dr. Hans Hutta, General Manager, of ICM (Vienna, Austria), are also among the speakers of this IENE conference, which has attracted the attention of organizations and think tanks of international standing.

Overall, the purpose of the conference will be to review progress so far and to analyse the impact that specific gas transit projects are going to have on the economies of the region and how these may in the long run affect European energy supply. The meeting will further focus on gas market integration, the uninterrupted flow of gas across borders, the development and operation of new gas transit corridors and gas trading hubs and how these could help further improve the security of gas supply. In this context IENE will bring together executives and senior government officials from Austria, Hungary, Russia, Azerbajan, Iran, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and Turkey, as well as representatives from major international organizations, from academic and research establishments and from the European Commission. The findings and conclusions of this regional conference will be reported by IENE soon after its conclusion for the benefit of all market players, the various governments and the EC.
