IENE’s Research Coordinator Visits Romania to Discuss Cooperation with Local Institutions and CompaniesOn October 30 and 31, IENE’s Research Projects Coordinator Mr. Nicholas Sofianos visited Bucharest, the capital of Romania, in preparation of a conference which IENE plans to organize there, at the end of April or early May 2015. On October 30 and 31, IENE’s Research Projects Coordinator Mr. Nicholas Sofianos visited Bucharest, the capital of Romania, in preparation of a conference which IENE plans to organize there, at the end of April or early May 2015. The conference will focus on the nuclear option for SE Europe in the context of regional energy security.

While in Bucharest, Mr. Sofianos had the opportunity to visit the Romanian Energy Centre (ROEC), a very active research institute based in Bucharest, where he met Mrs Eugenia Gusilov, ROEC chairperson, and discussed cooperation on a range of projects but also examined various collaboration opportunities. Following exchange of information it was decided that the two Institutes will actively seek to explore cooperation on a number of areas starting from the co-organization of the one day conference in Bucharest on the "Nuclear Option for SE Europe” but also jointly participate in common projects and events in Romania.

Mr. Sofianos met also Prof. Radu Dudau, director of the Energy Policy Group (EPG), who is an associate member of IENE’s International Advisory Group. It should be noted that Prof. Dudau has participated several times in IENE events and his contribution is much appreciated by IENE and its members in all different countries of the region.

Mr. Sofianos also paid a visit to Mrs. Valentina Dinu, Head of Investor Relations at Nuclearelectrica headquarters in Bucharest in order to inform the national nuclear company of Romania about the role of IENE in South East Europe but also to discuss the possibilities of cooperation. During this meeting, which was most interesting and informative Mr. Sofianos and Mrs Dinu discussed cooperation in the organization of the above mentioned conference as well as exchanging views regarding the nuclear sector in Romania and in the region.

On the occasion of his visit to Bucharest, Mr. Nicholas Sofianos, on October 30 participated in the "Oil & Gas Upstream and Supply Seminar” organized by the Balkans and Black Sea Petroleum Association (BBSPA) with which IENE has a long-established co-operation. Senior executives of European organizations, financial institutions and energy companies were among the speakers of this high level meeting.
