IENE's pioneering study concerning the prospects for carbon capture, storage, and utilization technologies (CCUS) in Greece and Southeast Europe, was presented before the Special Permanent Committee on Environmental Protection of the Hellenic Parliament on Wednesday, November 22, 2023
The study, titled “Prospects for the Implementation of CCUS Technologies in Greece - M64”, (see: the study's comprehensive summary), was presented within the Committee's Theme Cycle on “Confronting with the Climate Change”. The session was co-ordinated by the Spokeperson of the Special Permanent Committee on Environmental Protection, Ms. Dionysia Aygerinopoulou-Zhsimou, New Democracy MP.
Some of the authors of the study, both from IENE and from co-operating organizations, as well as representatives of the energy companies that supported the study participated in the presentation. More specifically, the members of the aforementioned Special Permanent Committee were informed, as far as IENE was concerned, on the prospects of CCUS technologies in Greece and its vicinity, by the Chairman and Executive Director of IENE, Mr. Costis Stambolis, Dr. Nikolaos Koukouzas (Director of Research, National Center for Research and Technological Development - EKETA), and Dr. Eugenia Tzannini (lawyer, E. Tzannini and Associates, IENE Partner).
More over, on behalf of the Partner companies that contributed in financing the study, some their senior executives took the floor, including: Mr. Anastassios Vlassopoulos (CEO, HELLENiQ UPSTREAM S.A., HELLENiQ ENERGY Group), Mr. Dimitris Tamvakis (Head of Corporate Development Division, DEPA Commercial S.A.), Dr. Aristophanes Stefatos (CEO, Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company – HEREMA S.A.), and Ms. Cleopatra Avraam (Strategic Planning Senior Manager, DESFA). Also, Mr. Vasilis Stenos, Founder & CEO of Solmeyea, a Greek biotech start-up company, and an Environmental Engineer with a dissertation on CCUS, provided his insighr on IENE's study. The session was also attended by Mr. Efthimios Tartaras (Head of Geoscience & Management Consultant, Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company – HEREMA S.A.), Mr. Ioannis Stavrakopoulos (Energy Transition and Strategic Planning Specialist, DESFA), and Mr. Konstantinos Oikonomopoulos (Research Fellow, IENE).
