IENE sent today, June 27, to its members a special Briefing Note on the occasion of the EU Leaders Summit that started yesterday in Ypres, France, and continues today in Brussels. As Climate and Energy are issues that will be discussed during a working session today, IENE’s Briefing Note No3, entitled "Energy Security at the Forefront of European Energy Policy”, is very topical and of great interest. It should be further noted that, during the Summit, the signing of the association agreements between the EU and Georgia, Moldova and, most notably, Ukraine, took place.
The readers of this latest IENE Briefing Note will find attached the full Commission Staff Working Document entitled "In-depth study of European Energy Security”. This highly important and detailed study on European energy security will most certainly become a guide for the future EU policies in this field.
Energy security and how this can be achieved at European level is a subject of wider significance especially at a time of rising tensions between EU and Russia and the need for Europe to diversify its energy supply sources and corresponding routes.
Thus, IENE wishes, through its latest Briefing Note and by attaching the full 228-page Commission Staff Working Document, to draw its members’ attention on this major issue.
