From November 26 until December 1 IENE’s Executive Director Mr. Costis Stambolis visited Vienna where he had meetings with associates of the Institute and representatives of international and European organizations based in the Austrian capital. While in Vienna IENE’s Executive Director met with Dr. Yurdakul Yigitguden ,Co-ordinator of Economic and Environmental activities at OSCE headquarters and Dr. Hans Hutta, Director General of the Vienna Petroleum Academy, both long standing associate members of the Institute. Discussions with both associates, whom he met on different occasions, focused on IENE’s plans to expand its presence in the SE European region and so improve cooperation with Austrian based companies and organizations. The staging by IENE of a major regional gas conference in Vienna next March was also explored.
While in Vienna IENE’s Executive Director also met with Mr. Janez Kopac, Director General of the Energy Community, whom he briefed in detail on IENE and its activities. Mr. Kopac from his part also informed Mr. Stambolis of Energy Community’s latest activities and its plans for 2015.It should be noted that the Energy Community secretariat and IENE have for some years now established a fruitful cooperation with EC officers having participated on several occasions at IENE events in the region. Lately IENE has established cooperation with the Energy Community’s ‘’Energy Efficiency Coordination Group’’.
Another important meeting took place in the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) where IENE’s Executive Director met with Mr. Ayhan Eurensel from the office of the Deputy Director General. Apart from informing IAEA of IENE’s role and work Mr. Stambolis discussed cooperation with the IAEA in the context of the Institute’s forthcoming conference in Bucharest, scheduled for May 6, on the ‘’ Nuclear Option for SE Europe’’.
