More than 25 partners participated in the 33d General Assembly of Partners of the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) which took place online, via zoom, on June 30th. Following approval of the Institute’s Annual Report which was presented by the outgoing chairman Mr. Costis Stambolis, and also included the financial statement for the year 2020, the partners proceeded with the election of a new Executive Committee since the term of the present one ended in July.
In view of the extenuating circumstances which the Institute is facing in view of the continuing coronavirus pandemic, it was decided that there should be no major changes in the Institute’s management team. Hence, the chairman proposed to the AGM to re-elect the current Executive Committee for the next two-year term. A proposal which was fully backed by all partners present. Accordingly, a vote was cast and the existing Executive Committee was unanimously re-elected for another 2 year term. Hence, the IENE’s new Executive Committee stands as follows:
Chairman: Costis Stambolis
Deputy Chairman: Konstantinos Papamichalopoulos
General Secretary: Costas Theofylaktos
Members: Christos Dimas, Thomas Lamnides, Dionysis Xenos and Anastasios Tosios
Presenting IENE’s Annual Report for 2020, the Chairman noted that even though the Institute operated under particularly difficult circumstances due to the Covid-19 pandemic, its work not only continued uninterrupted, but it made considerable progress in several areas of engagement. In this respect the Institute carried on with the preparation and dispatch to its members of its regular information feed (i.e. newsletters, analysis, Briefing Notes, WP etc.), the organization of events, mostly webinars, and the undertaking of a number of innovative educational courses. In addition, IENE’s research team completed a number of important research projects and strategy-oriented studies.
Addressing the Partners following his re-election as Chairman of IENE, Costis Stambolis, outlined as follows his plan for the Institute’s work over the next 2 years.
(a) Strengthening of IENE’s regional outreach by attracting new members, individuals, and companies from all countries in SE Europe, as well as co-organizing events and other activities in association with regional and international organizations.
(b) Advancement of the Institute's work in its main areas of activity, including study and research projects and improvement of the Institute’s information feed to its members.
(c) The organization of targeted events in all different countries in SE Europe focusing on issues relevant to Energy Transition.
(d) Continuation and expansion of IENE’s educational activities with emphasis in the organization of high-level courses mainly addressed to executives and energy professionals, and
(e) Further development of the newly launched Advisory Services focusing on Green Bonds and verification procedures.
Costis Stambolis ended his presentation by thanking the other members of the Executive Committee for their devotion, their work and their valuable help towards the Institute’s advancement. “Our Institute”, underlined the Chairman in his concluding remarks, “has managed not only to survive but thanks to its work and various activities to consolidate its presence in the SEE region during a most difficult period. I am more than confident that over the next two year IENE will move ahead and achieve specific goals as part of its energy transition commitment thus helping to improve the environment while facilitating a more rational use of energy”.
