IENE’s Annual Report 2020 on “Greece’s Energy Sector” is Now Available in English

IENE’s Annual Report 2020 on “Greece’s Energy Sector” is Now Available in EnglishThe latest developments that shape the Greek energy sector, the challenges and opportunities that arise at domestic and regional level and the investment prospects over the next decade are analyzed, among others, in the 2020 Annual Report for the Greek Energy Sector published last month by the Institute of Energy for South-East Europe (IENE).

This is the second time that IENE publishes this annual report with the first one appearing in February 2019. The 2020 report was presented through an online event on November 25, with the participation of government officials and senior executives of the Greek energy sector as well as media representatives.

The 2020 Annual Report is the result of systematic work undertaken by the Institute’s in-house research team over the past months, with the ultimate goal of presenting latest data and analysis on the fast changing domestic energy scene. This latest IENE study is expected to contribute to the further understanding of Greece’s dynamic energy sector and the prospects of the various energy markets (i.e. oil and gas, electricity, coal/lignite, renewables, energy efficiency and cogeneration).

As the Report points out, the ongoing decarbonization plan, the increased penetration of RES, the electricity interconnection of islands, the implementation of the European Target Model in electricity market operation as well as a plethora of initiatives aimed at enhancing electric mobility and energy efficiency, among others, shape a vibrant energy landscape. At the same time, at regional level, Greece’s key energy players are currently developing closer cooperation with neighboring countries (e.g. through electricity market coupling and new gas interconnectors) thus further contributing towards the establishment of an integrated regional electricity and gas market.
