The Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) is organizing, once again in Athens, its annual National Energy Conference "Energy and Development 2015” on November 11-12, 2015. This year’s conference will focus on "The Role of the Energy Sector in Revitalizing Greece’s Economy”.

A review of latest developments in the local and regional energy sector, the exchange of views and most importantly, the formulation of useful conclusions will form an integral part of the proceedings of this IENE annual conference, where more than 40 speakers and panelists are expected to participate from Greece and other European countries.

The main themes to be covered in this year’s "Energy and Development” conference, now in its 20th edition, will include the following:

·Greece’s energy sector in view of the current financial turmoil

·Overview of latest energy developments in SE Europe

·Energy related investments and return to economic growth

·Investment and business opportunities in Greece’s energy sector

·Competition in Greece’s electricity and gas markets

·Energy supply and security considerations in Greece’s energy system

·The role of natural gas in the further development of Greece’s energy market

·Oil and Gas exploration outlook in Greece and the East Mediterranean

·Regional energy stability and the role of Greece

·Geopolitical considerations in the evolvingenergy landscape of SE Europe

Geopolitics, sustainability, energy security and related economic development are some of the key parameters of the Greek energy system but also of those of other countries in SE Europe, which IENE’s 20th Annual National Conference "Energy & Development 2015” will address. The international licensing round for oil and gas exploration in offshore areas in the Ionian and south of Crete, the ongoing hydrocarbon exploration in the East Mediterranean, oil and gas exploration in the Black Sea, the South Corridor’s passage through Turkey, Greece, Albania and Italy, the financial crisis in Greece and the Eurozone, the current violent political transformation and ethnic strife in the Middle East, form among others a complex geopolitical setting that will, undoubtedly, influence energy developments in Greece and the broader SE Europe region.

The conference will be attended by senior executives, scientists, engineers and energy professionals from all the major Greek energy-related companies and also by policy-makers. Participation is also expected from other European countries especially from S.E. Europe and by international electricity, oil and natural gas companies, RES and energy efficiency companies. Representatives from various leading European energy groups and industry organizations will also participate in IENE’s Athens conference next November.

The "Energy & Development 2015” conference will take place at the "Eugenides Foundation” conference facilities in Faliron, a short distance from the centre of Athens (387, Syngrou Av., 175 64 Athens).

Greece’s Public Gas Corporation S.A. (DEPA S.A.) is the main sponsors of the 20th Annual National Conference "Energy & Development 2015”, whereas TERNA Energy SA, Kyriakides Georgopoulos Law Firm (KG Law Firm, Greece) and Energean Oil and Gas Co. are among the conference’s supporters. Energia.gr and SEE News are the conference’s media partners.
