Following a meeting of IENE’s, Energy Efficiency Committee in Athens last Monday (8/2) it was decided to expand its remit by organizing a series of workshops and discussion groups throughout SE Europe on energy efficiency applications for buildings. High on the committee’s agenda is a review of EU Directives on Energy Efficiency (2002/91/EC) and on Energy Performance of Buildings (2010/31/EU), and how these are applied in the different countries of SE Europe.

According to Mr. Costas Theofylactos the committee’s chairman, a first workshop will be held in Athens in late April or early May in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Energy in order to assess the introduction of the latest legal framework in Greece (Law 4342/15) which covers every efficiency in buildings and industry. "Following this first event, we intend to organize a series of workshops and discussion groups starting with Bulgaria and Romania and later move on to other countries in the region in order to assess the introduction of energy efficiency measures in the building sector and how these are applied and results achieved so far,” says Costas Theofylactos.

IENE has already conducted an in depth review of "Greece’s Experience in using EU Structural Funds for Improving the Energy Performance of Buildings” which was published as Working Paper No. 21 in late 2014. This Paper can be found in the Report section of this site. An initial review of the energy efficiency programmes and projects in all countries of SE Europe will appear later this year as part of IENE’s forthcoming "SE Europe Energy Outlook 2016”
