IENE ‘s Chairman John Chadjivassiliadis  Participated in the Prague European Energy  ForumFollowing an invitation by the organizers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CzehRepublic, IENE’s chairman John Chadjivassiliadistravelled to Prague and participated in a one-day high level meeting which was held at the Grand Hall of the Czernin Palace on February 13. In line with latest developments and the current agenda of the EU, the Forum’s theme focused on EU’s Energy Priorities in the context of the 2030 framework for climate and energy policies and the implications to the members states. Among the forum’s keynote speakers were Evzen Tosenovsky, MEP Vice of Chair Committee for Industry,Research and Energy (ITRE),Stefan Vergote, Head of Unit, ‘’Strategy and Economic Assessment’’ DG CLIMA,European Commission, Stephen Bennet, Head of EU Climate Mitigation,UK Department for Energy and Climate Change, Ivo Hlavac, Member of the Board, Public Affairs Director,CEZ,a.s. and Mr. Martin Herrmann, Chairman of the Board and CEO, RWE CR,a.s.

A lively panel discussion was also held concerning the reform of EU’s ETS mechanism in view of the need for further investments and long term planning by major european energy industries. Jesse Scott, Head of Unit, and Environment & Sustainable Development Policy, Eurelectric, Pavel Zamyslicky, Director of the Department of Energy and Climate Protection, Ministry of Environment of the CR ,Jan Rafaj , Vice –President responsible for energy, environment and European regulations ,Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, Max Wandler, Ceska sporitelna,a.s , participated in this highly topical encounter.

IENE’s chairman participated in the panel discussion which followed and was devoted to EU’s internal energy market fragmentation. In his introductory presentation John Chadjivassiliadis focused on the priorities of the Greek Presidency stressing the following points:

The promotion of the European policies in energy and climate change for the period beyond 2020, discussion in the European Council the 4th of March

The energy prices and the competitiveness of the European economy, should be discussed in the European Council in the 4thof March

The energy cost for the residential consumers and any measures for the vulnerable consumers

The integration of the internal energy market, to be ready by the end of 2014

The security of energy supply and energy infrastructure, to be discussed during the informal European council of May in Athens

The international relations in the energy sector, it would be a subject for discussion in the Council of June

The investigation for possible political agreement on the indirect land use change (ILUC) impacts of first and second generation biofuels

The adoption of the modification of the Directive for nuclear security, which is now under discussion in the Working Party on Atomic Questions
