28th "Energy & Development" Conference Programme Announced – More than 60 speakers have confirmed their participation

The detailed programme of IENE’s forthcoming “Energy & Development 2024” conference has just been announced and posted on IENE's website (here).Covering a diverse range of topics at the forefront of the global and regional energy agenda, IENE's annual milestone event, the National Energy Conference "Energy & Development" this year will be held on November 6&7, at the “OTE Academy” in Athens (Pelika & Spartis 1, Marousi). The "Energy & Development" Conference, now in its 28th edition, is expected to attract a large number of participants including senior executives and government officials from Greece and abroad.

Covering a diverse range of topics at the forefront of the global and regional energy agenda, IENE's annual milestone event, the National Energy Conference "Energy & Development" this year will be held on November 6&7, at the “OTE Academy” in Athens (Pelika & Spartis 1, Marousi). The "Energy & Development" Conference, now in its 28th edition, is expected to attract a large number of participants including senior executives and government officials from Greece and abroad.

The "Energy & Development 2024" Conference will open with a speech by Greece’s Minister of Environment & Energy, Mr. Theodore Skylakakis, while introductory statements and addresses will be delivered by high-ranking  representatives from Greece's energy and economy sector.

More specifically, Prof. Athanasios Dagoumas, Chairman of Greece's Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water (RAAEY), Mr. Ioannis Yiarentis, CEO of Renewable Energy Sources Operator & Guarantees of Origin (DAPEEP SA), Prof. N. Vettas, Director General of the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE), will address the Conference, along with representatives from the European Commission (DG Energy Brussels) and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) will address the conference.

Furthermore, on behalf of industry associations, Mr. Panagiotis Ladakakos, President of the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (HWEA), Dr. Stelios Loumakis, President of the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Energy Producers (SPEF), as well as Mr. Constantinos Yazitzoglou, Chairman of the Greek Mining Enterprises Association (SME), will and contribute their insight on latest market developments.

Two Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), Prof. Yannis Maniatis, at the Dept. of Digital Systems of  the University of Piraeus, and, f. Minister of Environment, Energy, Climate Change, and Prof. Nikolas Farantouris, Jean Monnet Professor of EU Law at the International & European Studies Dept. of the University of Piraeus, representing PASOK and SYRIZA political parties respectively, will address IENE's 28th "Energy & Development" Conference at its opening session.

In total, more than 60 speakers have already confirmed their participation in this year's IENE's "Energy & Development" Conference . These include many senior executives from major energy companies and organizations in Greece and abroad, as well as academics, scientists from major research centers, representatives of international organizations and well-known stakeholders. Moreover, established experts and analysts will share their perspective on highly topical energy matters.

As it has become the custom  lately, one of the first international presentations of IEA’s flagship publication, the “World Energy Outlook”, will take place during the "Energy and Development" Conference. Mr. Oskaras Alsauskas, Energy Analyst,  will travel to Athens and will  on behalf of the IEA, present the “World Energy Outlook 2024”, the main conclusions of which will be commented upon by a distinguished panel of experts. This year's edition of the International Energy Agency’s benchmark report underlines the key role of energy efficiency in green transition and will also analyse the crucial factor of energy security.

IENE's 28th "Energy & Development" Conference will cover a number of important  topics of the domestic, regional and international energy agenda and will include the following:

  • Investing in energy: electricity, RES, energy efficiency, ESG criteria, Green Bonds and geopolitical factors
  • Exploration and production of hydrocarbons: latest developments in Israel, Egypt, Cyprus and Greece
  • Artificial Intelligence (ΑΙ), energy optimization and digitalization in energy transition
  • Natural gas: Review of the regional, domestic and international markets
  • Electricity markets: the wholesale electricity market in Greece and the SE Europe, curtailment of RES inputs, energy storage and prospects for the further penetration of RES

 IENE's "Energy and Development 2024" is held under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RΑΑΕΥ) and the International Energy Agency (IEA).
