2025 Promises to be a Year Full of Events and Diverse Activities for IENE

The first event to be organised by the Institute in 2025 is the annual get-together at the Athens Club, on the evening of Tuesday, February 4 in order to celebrate the start of the year and to cut the tradional new year cake. A workshop will then be held on February 19 in the auditorium of the Technical Chamber of Greece which will focus on the economics of CCUS applications. The IENE research team will take this opportunity to present its findings from a recently completed study on the “Cost Benefit Analysis for CCUS Hubs in Greece”. Most of the key players involved in CCUS applications will participate.

On March 12 the Institute will organise, again in the Technical Chamber auditorium, another workshop on “Heat Pumps” and their applications in buildings. As heat pump applications are rising fast this even is of particular interest to architects and engineers who need to specify heat pump installations. Later on in March, and following popular demand, the IENE will organise a webinar on “ Artificial Intelligence and Energy Transition”. This event will cover latest developments worldwide and Europe and is expected to attract considerable attention from all over SE Europe.

A major event is planned for April 8, to be held at Cotsen Hall, in Athens for the launching of IENE’s major new programme on “ Innovation in Energy”.This is a multifaceted programme which aims to enhance innovation in the energy field in SE Europe. A number of experts from industry, research centres and academia are expected to participate in person and deliver keynote addresses, while the IENE team will announce the Institute’s plan of action which will aim at promoting innovatory energy applications. The event will conclude with a wide ranging discussion which will help illuminate several aspects of the innovation process in system and product design.

As the Institute is very much involved in energy security issues a special programme on “Regional Energy Security” is under consideration and hopefully it will be announced before the end of the first half of the year. It has not yet been decided what will be the exact format of the programme, although an afternoon webinar, sometime in April or May, seems to be the most likely option. Not unrelated to IENE’s interests in energy security issues is the “High Level Regional Energy Roundtable”, which the Institute will convene in partnership with the Tsomokos Group International (THI) and is provisionally scheduled for May 19 and will be held in the capital of Bulgaria, in Sofia.

A number of other events are planned for the rest of 2025 with several of them related to the roadshows which will be held in various capitals in SE Europe, for the promotion of the Institute’s flagship publication, the “SEE Energy Outlook 2025”, which is planned for release in June this year.
