IENE convenes virtual event to discuss energy efficiency for buildings and industry

The challenges and opportunities currently arising in the field of energy efficiency in the building and industrial sector - not only in Greece but also in the wider European area - will be the focus of an all-day online conference on "Investing in Energy Efficiency: Business, Industry and Public Buildings" organized by the Energy Institute of SE Europe (IENE) on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

The new ambitions targets set by the EU for a 32.5% improvement in energy efficiency from MS-27 by 2030, combined with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to 40% over the same period, but also the latest thinking in revising the European Energy Efficiency Directive, which to be implemented before summer, provided the incentive for the organization of this web conference. Furthermore, the goal of this unique online event is to present an overview and evaluation of the latest developments related to energy efficiency applications and experience in Greece and Europe. The conference, which will be attended by senior officials and executives from international, European and Greek organizations will focus on the energy efficiency of public buildings, industries and businesses.

The energy upgrade of buildings and the role of Public Sector buildings (central administration, regional governments, municipalities) will form a separate section which will include an overview of all ongoing programs (e.g. the role of "Saving- Autonomous Programme", NSRF programs etc.). In the same framework, the conference will examine the possibilities for the improvement of Energy Efficiency in Industry and Business as well as the presentation of best practices in this area. Finally, with the assistance of banking executives, the conference will examine the "Financial Instruments for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving" in green procurement for buildings and businesses and the role of ESCOs in achieving the objectives set by the directives and the corresponding Greek laws on this subject.

With more than 20 speakers and panelists from Greece and abroad, this special event of IENE will seek to map out the latest developments in the field of energy efficiency, but also discuss the upcoming changes in the international framework in technologies and investments.

Participation in this IENE online conference is free while the entire event will be livestreamed. The conference proceedings will be mostly in Greek without translation. A similar event in English, to be organized by IENE, which will discuss developments across SEE is now planned for later in the year and an announcement will be made in due course.
