On March 19, 2014, the "1st IENE Energy and Geopolitics Roundtable” will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, focusing on the region’s changing geopolitical parameters will include energy experts from Bulgaria and Greece. This Roundtable aims to highlight the key geopolitics issues related to energy in the broader SE European region. This meeting, which coincides with the Greek Presidency of the Council of European Union, will be the first of a series of such meetings to be organized in the different capitals of SE Europe (Sofia, Athens, Ankara, Tel Aviv, Bucharest, Belgrade etc) over the next months.
This latest IENE initiative comes in response to the intense geopolitical changes that are now in evidence in the broader region of SE Europe and the Middle East. The purpose of these roundtable meetings, apart from a general update on latest energy developments, is to examine the geopolitical challenges which arise in view of the new energy parameters but also to discuss the measures that need to be taken in order to ensure economic sustainability and security of energy supply in the region.
The first Energy and Geopolitics Roundtable, in Sofia, will bring together high-ranking government officials, diplomats, representatives from international and regional organisations, senior business executives and energy experts from Greece and Bulgaria but also from other countries in the region with the objective of exchanging information and ideas on energy and security issues, networking and discussion on the shaping of the political action deemed necessary in order to face the new energy and geopolitical challenges of the region.
The event will cover latest developments in the energy sector and their impact on regional policies with a special focus on Bulgaria and will include a Roundtable Discussion with the participation of representatives from governments, international and regional organizations, companies, embassies etc.
