Following an early start during the pandemic in 2020 and last year’s hybrid event this is the third year running that the “invest in network” is staging this unique conference focusing on renewable energy in the region. The event is being held at the Sheraton hotel in Bucharest and is bringing together both state and private sector companies from Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Turkey.
As the organisers point out the war in Ukraine has disrupted an already volatile energy market where energy prices rose sharply as post lock-down energy demand exceeded supply. Today, self sufficiency and energy independence are no longer regarded as a theoretical stratagem to tackle the energy crisis. Utilising vast renewable energy potential, increasing grid interconnections and facilitating system flexibility and market liberalisation are of paramount importance. And while investing in renewables in the region is gaining momentum, cooperation and interconnectivity become key to teaching targets set by the countries and the EU.
The Energy Week Black Sea event is well positioned to encourage regional cooperation as well as foster the deployment of renewable energy projects in the region and attract outside investment. The IENE is fully backing this conference with its Chairman and Executive Director, Mr.Costis Stambolis, moderating the second session in the first day of the conference on Tuesday, February 7.
More specifically Costis Stambolis moderated Session 2 which covered the financing of renewable energy and comprised many prominent executives from international banking organisations and from leading energy companies. The speakers of the session included Mr.Daniel Kockisch, semir investment officer from the IFC Infrastructure, Ms.Lara Tasman Zanin, Resident Representative in Romania of EIB, Mr.David Managadze, Regional Head Energy, EBRD, Mr.Franck Neel, Executive Board Member, OMV Petrom, Mr.Yann Giuinard, Vice President System Assets Development,EDF International Division and Mr. Vartan Oskanian, Senior Executive of RECOM Technologies and former Foreign Minister of Armenia.
The above session lasted one hour and 45 minutes and apart from short presentations from each panelist it included a lively discussion with the audience and between the six panelists.
