Risk for natural gas transit to Europe via Ukraine is high due to short filling of underground gas storages (UGS), Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Russian gas holding Alexander Medvedev said on Wednesday in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV Channel.
"The risk of transit problems is very high this year due to insufficient gas in underground storages because more than 3 bln cubic meters were not injected, even comparing with the last year," Medvedev said.
Medvedev said he does not see the need of involving third parties in negotiations of gas supply to Ukraine. "We repeatedly told the Ukrainian party that we have the effective contract. The contract price is very attractive now for any buyer. Interference or aid of anyone else is not need. It is enough to make prepayment," he added.
The throughput capacity of Ukraine’s gas transmission system (GTS) is 110 bln cubic meters. Transit of Russian gas through the Ukraine’s GTS was 67 bln cubic meters in 2015.
