Gazprom continues expecting the company owned by Ukraine’s businessman Andrei Firtash will repay the loan guaranteed by the Russian gas giant, Chief Accountant of Gazprom Elena Vasilyeva said on Thursday.

Guarantees were extended for the loan and there is still an opportunity to recover funds, Vasilyeva added.

TASS reported earlier Firtash’s Ostchem Holding borrowed $842.5 mln to buy Russian natural gas. Funds were borrowed before the power shift in Ukraine. The businessman is currently living in Austria because the United States and new Ukrainian authorities have claims to him.
