Europe's Energy Choices Under the Microscope of the 26th National Conference "Energy & Development 2022" by IENEThe Institute of Energy of Southeast Europe (IENE) will once again hold its annual conference the 26th National Conference “Energy & Development”, which will take place at the Divani Caravel Hotel, in Athens on November 22-23, 2022. The special theme of this year's conference is "Europe Αhead of Critical Energy Choices", where special emphasis will be given to the current energy energy crisis and Europe’s effort to decouple from Russian energy while trying to keep in focus its NetZero goals.

The Institute of Energy of Southeast Europe (IENE) will once again hold its annual conference the 26th National Conference “Energy & Development”, which will take place at the Divani Caravel Hotel, in Athens on November 22-23, 2022. The special theme of this year's conference is "Europe Αhead of Critical Energy Choices", where special emphasis will be given to the current energy energy crisis and Europe’s effort to decouple from Russian energy while trying to keep in focus its NetZero goals.

The energy security in Greece and the wider region, as well as efforts to diversity energy supply will be in the spotlight of the conference, which signals a turning point in the energy scene of the country and SE Europe.  As always, the whole range of issues related to the energy sector in Greece and the wider region of SE Europe, as well as their impact on the economy and society, will be thoroughly discussed.

The Chairman and Executive Director of IENE Mr. Costis Stambolis will launch the conference with an opening statement to be followed by an address by the Minister of Environment, Mr. Kostas Skrekas and by the Minister of Development and Investments, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis.

Several senior government officials will also address the conference including  Ms. Alexandra Sdoukou, Secretary General for Energy & Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Prof. Athanasios Dagoumas, Chairman of the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and Mr. Sokratis Famellos, Member of Parliament and responsible for  Energy of the main opposition party of SYRIZA.

CEO ‘s of public entities and large energy companies, well known energy experts and renowned academics from Greece and abroad will also participate and contribute presentations and commentary in this regional multi-thematic conference.

It is worth noting that during the 1st Session of the Conference on "Energy crisis: The Global, European and National Dimension", IEA’s flagship publication the World Energy Outlook 2022 will be presented by Dr. Apostolos Petropoulos, from International Energy Agency, in Paris.

This will be followed by sessions covering the following topics:

·         Energy crisis and Greece’s Response

·         Geopolitical Parameters and Energy Security: EU, SE Europe and Greece

·         The Electricity and Natural Gas Markets in Greece and SE Europe

On the second day, the following thematic sections will be examined:

·         Exploration and Production of Hydrocarbons (upstream)

·         Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Transport and Industry

·         Energy infrastructure and the strategic role of natural gas and LNG in the global and regional energy supply

·         The Electricity and Natural Gas Markets in SE Europe in a volatile high price environment. Are there solutions?

·         The critical role of New Technologies: Hydrogen, Green Fuels, Biomethane, CCUS

·         The role of Innovation and Start-Up companies in the energy sector

·         Energy and Economy: Delicate Balances in an Uncertain Global Environment

The 26th "Energy & Development 2022" Conference, will conclude with a ceremony for the award of the Institute’s annual "Prometheus " prizes, as well as with closing remarks by the organizers.

The Conference is being held under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE).
