European Commission Vice President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič encouraged Moldova to continue with energy reforms, including the modernisation of infrastructure to boost the country’s energy resilience.
Šefčovič met with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leancă in Brussels on January 22 to discuss EU-Moldova energy cooperation. Leanca paid a working visit to Brussels on January 22-23 where he met with decision-makers of the European Union.
During discussions, Leanca was expected to inform European partners on Moldova’s government’s commitment to speed up the reforms in key sectors, particularly in the courts and fighting corruption, the Moldovan government said in a press release ahead of the visit.
Leancă was expected to discuss the financial assistance for Moldova, turning to good account the potential of the free trade area, as well as the materialisation of opportunities provided by the Eastern Partnership.
"I go to Brussels to convey a clear-cut message that Moldova is really willing to reform more fields in which there are problems. I am sure that through the coherent promotion of reforms, we will manage to substantially boost the dialogue with the EU on diverse dimensions so that citizens feel the benefits of a rapprochement with the EU as soon as possible,” Leanca said ahead of the visit.
Last week, Leanca had a working meeting with the ambassadors of the EU member states accredited in Chisinau, as well as with representatives of more national institutions on different subjects dealing with the Moldova-EU bilateral agenda.
