Italian Eni and Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) will collaborate in research in strategic scientific, technological and environmental areas, Eni said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, both companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that is expected to impact the country's circular economy, alternative energy and environmental protection. Based on this agreement, Eni and ENEA will combine their experience and areas of expertise to develop a joint plan of action to promote innovative technological solutions.

The parties will assess topics linked to the circular economy and new sustainable economic models; the production of low and no greenhouse gas emission energy (including solar concentration, photovoltaic and biomasses); energy storage technologies; energy efficiency; digitalization; environmental monitoring and protection with a specific focus on climate change. CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, said the cooperation would enable Eni to place a greater emphasis on environmental and digital technologies, with a potentially significant impact for the country.
