Energy Security, Regional Geopolitics, Decarbonisation and Clean Energy Technologies Are Key Issues of the 15th SEE Energy Dialogue

Energy Security, Regional Geopolitics, Decarbonisation and Clean Energy Technologies Are Key Issues of the 15th SEE Energy DialogueSince its very start in June 2007, in Thessaloniki, the annual “SEE Energy Dialogue” has brought together representatives at senior level from all countries in the region who between them have covered a wide spectrum of disciplines in the broader energy sector

This plurality of approach to the issues at hand has been a mainstay of this unique regional meeting which IENE has been consistently organising almost every year. Judging from the programme which the organising committee has put together and from the high calibre of speakers involved, this year could be no exception.

From the very start the “SEE Energy Dialogue” has been established by IENE as an important regional event spanning the entire energy spectrum and involving most countries in the region. The purpose of this regional forum, which is being organized with the support of leading and regional organizations and major energy companies, is to bring together high-ranking government officials, senior business executives and energy experts from all countries of S.E. Europe and beyond. The objective being the free exchange of information and ideas, networking and the advancement of cooperation between all countries in SE Europe.

The “SEE Energy Dialogue” has been conceived as an open forum for furthering the idea of a SE European energy bridge between East and West and North of South, and for promoting initiatives aimed at tackling the region's complex energy and environmental challenges.

Europe, and particularly SE Europe, is highly dependent on imported fossil fuels and in this sense the efforts for decarbonization with high penetration of renewables and clean technologies (e.g. nuclear power, hydrogen) and energy autonomy will be discussed at length in this year’s Energy Dialogue. The quest for clean energy solutions, including nuclear power, will be at the heart of this important regional meeting. The “Energy Dialogue” will also cover the latest developments in the region’s evolving natural gas, electricity and RES markets and the ongoing energy partnerships with major oil and gas suppliers.

Energy security will once again be at the forefront of the debate concerning the safeguarding of oil and gas supplies to the region in view of ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. The role of alternative gas supply routes, LNG shipments, cross border interconnections and electricity grid upgrades and international electricity interconnections together with latest achievements in renewable energy, nuclear power and CCUS applications will also be examined.

As the global energy landscape is changing fast with ever growing energy demand and supply and the need for higher production from all different sources, both conventional and alternative, the need for dialogue and discussion between market players and policy makers is as necessary as ever.

The “SEE Energy Dialogue” with its well organised structure and its growing circle of participants comes to fill in this important need. As energy issues become more complex and solutions often require intense cross border cooperation the IENE aspires for even bigger regional involvement. In this context we are confident that this year’s event will once again prove to be useful and highly interesting to all concerned.

This year’s “Energy Dialogue” is being supported by major energy and services companies including HELLENiQ ENERGY Group, KG Law Firm, Motor Oil, DESFA, Elpedison, EnSCo, SELeNe CC, Gastrade, HEREMA,  and ZeniΘ.

Media partners include NEGlobal.eu, SeeNews, Energia.gr, Policy Journal, and allazorevma.gr and Supporting Organizations include British Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, International Hellenic University and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
