Qatar began electricity supply to Syria via Jordan under the directives of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Thursday.
During the initial phase, up to 400 megawatts of electricity will be supplied daily, a written statement from the Qatar Development Fund said.
The electricity generation capacity at Syria's Deir Ali station will gradually increase, it added.
The power supply will be distributed across multiple Syrian cities, including Damascus, to enhance essential services and strengthen social stability.
The initiative, carried out under an agreement between the Qatar Development Fund and Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, aims to address electricity shortages and improve infrastructure in Syria.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will oversee its administration.
