Greek energy group Helleniq Energy said on Monday that it has completed development and has started operation of two photovoltaic (PV) plants with a combined capacity of 58 MW in southern Romania.
The launch of commercial operations at the two solar parks marks the beginning of Helleniq's operational presence in Romania's renewable energy market, the group said in a statement.
The two completed projects are part of an agreement signed in 2023 with Greek industrial and energy company Metlen Energy and Metals for the development and acquisition of four solar projects with a total capacity of 211 MW. The two projects remaining under this agreement, with a total capacity of 153 MW, are expected to be finalised and to enter commercial operation this year.
Helleniq Energy also has a 96 MW wind project under development in northeastern Romania, which is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027. It will bring the company's total installed capacity in the country to over 300 MW. The group's renewable energy portfolio in Romania exceeds 850 MW, including solar and wind projects combined with energy storage systems.
Helleniq Energy is present in the renewables sector across five countries - Greece, Romania, Cyprus, Bulgaria and North Macedonia, with the group's total renewable capacity in operation reaching 564 MW. The group aims to reach 1.5 GW of installed renewable capacity within the next three years and over 2 GW by 2030.
