EBRD Selects Best Sustainable Energy Projects in the Western Balkans

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is recognising outstanding projects financed under the Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Finance Facility II in Zagreb on 22 October. Outstanding projects promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy in the commercial, municipal and residential sectors will be receiving the awards in the Emerald Ballroom of the Hotel Regent Esplanade, at 10 o’clock in the morning.

 

The award ceremony will gather government officials, representatives of the business and international community, as well as EBRD partner banks and local companies. The awards will be presented by Mr. Gordan Maras, the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Crafts and Ms. Vedrana Jelušić Kašić, the EBRD’s Director for Croatia.

 

Projects nominated in the categories below have demonstrated their excellence presented in implementing energy efficiency measures, using renewable energy solutions and reducing CO2 emissions.

 

The categories are:

 

I Energy efficiency in public sector

II Successful use of renewable energy in public sector

III Utilization of advanced technology in production process for improvement of energy efficiency

IV Improvement of energy efficiency in production process for better protection of environment

V Improvement of production process to enable energy saving and scrap reduction

VI Improvement of energy efficiency in agricultural production

VII Energy efficiency refurbishment of the business building

VIII Energy efficiency refurbishment of the residential building

IX Energy Service Company (ESCO)

 

The €92 million framework of WeBSEFF II is designed to provide credit lines to local banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, FYR Macedonia and Serbia for on-lending to private and municipal borrowers for energy efficiency and renewable energy investments. The aim of the facility is to support efforts towards the improved use and conservation of energy in the region. The facility is combining necessary longer-term financing with technical expertise, two crucial components which often remain difficult to obtain. Until September 30, 2015 already 162 sustainable energy projects were financed through WeBSEFF in total amount of EUR 42.3 million.
