Danish Wind Blade Producer Invests in Turkey

Danish LM Wind Power firm announced Thursday that it broke ground for a 17-hectares manufacturing plant in Bergama city located near Turkey's northwestern province of Izmir.

The plant, which will be constructed in the Bergama Organized Industrial Zone (BOSBI), will manufacture wind turbine blades.

The factory's production is expected to start by mid-2017 with an annual wind blade production that will help support a capacity of 500 MW power generation, with an option to increase around 2 gigawatts (GW).

The new plant in Turkey will be the 14th LM Wind Power blade manufacturing facility worldwide, and it will create 450 skilled technical jobs in the region.

"These will range from manufacturing operations, to technical engineering, services, administration and ancillary support," statement reads.

"It marks the beginning of new 'hub for green industry', which signals a prosperous future for the zone, the city of Bergama, for Izmir and for the wider Turkish economy," Huseyin Vatansever, president of BOSBI, said.
