Danish Vestas Secures its Biggest Order in Serbia

Danish wind turbine producer Vestas received its third and largest order from Serbian MK Fintel Wind for a 69-megawatt (MW) wind park, the company announced Thursday. "Long-term customer MK Fintel Wind [a joint venture of Serbian holding company MK Group and Italy's Fintel Energia Group] has placed an order for 20 V126-3.45 MW turbines for the 69 MW Kosava I wind park in Serbia," a press release read.

Vestas said it developed a solution with site-specific towers to accommodate the site’s distinct wind conditions and maximize energy production while meeting the site’s tip height constraints. Nils de Baar, president of Vestas Northern and Central Europe, said the development of tailored towers was "key" to the project.

"With the largest order to date between MK Fintel and Vestas in Serbia, we are delighted to reaffirm our strong and long-standing relationship," he added.

According to the statement, Vestas has been active in Serbia since 2008 and the two previous wind parks MK Fintel and Vestas partnered on, the Kula and La Piccolina wind parks, were the country’s first operating wind power plants.

Tiziano Giovannetti, CEO of MK Fintel Wind, said Kosava Phase I was the company’s "biggest single wind development" so far. "We look forward to complete it and immediately start working on Kosava Phase II and on the many other projects of our ambitious pipeline in the Balkans and in Russia, hopefully consolidating our partnership with Vestas," he added.

The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a 12-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM 4000) service agreement.

Delivery of the turbines is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2018, while commissioning is expected in the first quarter of next year. Vestas announced earlier on Thursday that it received a 112 MW turnkey order from Australia-based Palisade Investment Partners Limited for the Granville Harbour Wind Farm in Tasmania.
