Recent discoveries of significant natural gas quantities in the Eastern Mediterranean require the cooperation of all countries in the region to highlight its role as the new energy corridor for Europe and other regions, according to Cyprus’ Ambassador to the Netherlands Kyriacos Kouros.
According to an official announcement, Kouros signed the International Energy Charter on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, during a Ministerial Conference, on May 20, in The Hague.
In his address, Kouros expressed Cyprus’ full support to the Charter and its goals, noting, among others, that it comprises the right framework for such a cooperation and enhances confidence for investments and trade.
The Conference was organized by the Dutch government and the Energy Charter Secretariat.
The Charter has been adopted by 73 countries from various regions and by the European Commission.
